Spotlight: Art Explorations for ages 3-5

I wanted to take a minute to focus on one of our upcoming Art Explorations classes.  These are weekly classes, run as a ten week session.  They include exploration of a wide range of art materials and methods.  These classes are designed for children who are comfortable being dropped off by a parent.

So I wanted to tell you about Painting without a Paintbrush.  This class is for ages 3-5 and is held Tuesdays from 3:30-5:30pm beginning January 20.  Maral Pugh is the instructor, and she is amazing!  She has over twenty years experience in the classroom, is a talented artist, and a kind and thoughtful guide for young children exploring their world.

Children in Painting without a Paintbrush will explore a variety of techniques to get paint on paper.  Students can experiment with rollers, twigs, pine needles, acorns, feathers, marbles, buttons, and many more non-traditional painting techniques.  Children will also brainstorm together to come up with their own ideas--what could you use as a paintbrush?

To register for the class, contact Director of Children's Art Lab, Benares Angeley, at childrensartlab@gmail.com.

You can also find us (and like us!) at Facebook.com/childrensartlab

***Because so many children and parents have different after school schedules, we are willing to be somewhat flexible with the time of the class...just let me know if 4-6pm works better for you and your family and we can adjust the time individually!***

Open Studio hours are designed for children and adult caregivers to explore art concepts in the Art Lab space.  There is no need to sign up for Open Studio ahead of time--just drop in and make art!  Children can paint, work with 3-D materials, and experiment with a variety of techniques that change daily.  Open Studio is not a guided class, but an instructor is present to provide support, clean-up materials, and set up thought provoking explorations for children and caregivers.

Welcome to Children's Art Lab!

Hello and welcome!  Children's Art Lab is a children's art center located in Mattapoisett, MA, due to open mid-January 2015.  Keep reading to learn more!

Mission Statement
The Children's Art Lab is a space for children to explore the creative process.  We offer a nurturing environment where children can experiment with materials, get messy, and discover creative methods of self-expression.  Our focus is on child-led, process driven, developmentally appropriate artistic opportunities.

Why an "Art Lab?"
The word "lab" suggest a place for experimentation, which is exactly what artists do in their day to day studio practice.  Instead of merely asking a child to follow directions and create a specific product, we provide the opportunity for a child to "tinker" with materials and come to his or her own discoveries.  We also like the idea that art and science often overlap, from color theory to using natural materials for inspiration.
